Preschool Science Fair

Spring is in the air and our Science Fair has begun.  Miss Judy's class planted lettuce on April 1st.  The experiment was to see if our box, which does not receive as much sunshine, would grow faster  or slower than the plants that received full afternoon sun.  Already, we have learned that although the two other planters receive more sun the overhang from the building prevents them from receiving the amount of rain that our planter gets.  Surprisingly, our lettuce popped through the soil by April 4th and is growing bigger each day.  We have also learned that the soil needs water everyday.

Our class is divided into 5 teams.  Each day a different team waters the plants, if it did not rain the night before.  During playground time the same team is responsible to clean out the planters.  We sure hope the lettuce will germinate in time to make a small salad by the last day of school.  If it is not full grown, Miss Judy and Miss Patterson will have a yummy supply of lettuce to eat this summer to help us stay healthy and fit.

First, each student plants a strip of seeds.

Next, we carefully water the soil and seeds.

        Each student soaks the soil.

Let's see if we have green thumbs...

Yes, I think we do have green thumbs!
